Romance is NOT porn

When I started blogging, I told myself I wouldn't talk about politics. It's nothing but a way to divide friendships. But I've found something that pushed me over the edge.

Fred Head, candidate for State Comptroller in Texas, is running against a woman who had a romance novel published in 1990. Read the story here. You can click the "back" button at the top to read more about Fred.

Can you believe this guy? I mean, I can. But jeez louise that's an uneducated assumption. I encourage all Texas writers to spend your free time campaigning against this guy.

I read that article and it's simply the stupidest thing I've ever heard. And he's a politician so that says a lot. What a moron. I bet his opponent is going to get a lot of donations over this.

He is a total moron. I hope the Texas romance writers rally together and get his butt whooped at election time. Especially since RT and RWA are both there next year.

UGH!!!! What a stupid, moronic, idiotic position to take. He's just plain ridiculous. You know what I think is PORN? 665,000 Iraqis are DEAD since we invaded. Does THAT not get a politicians boxers in a twist?!? We have nothing better to talk about in this country than a romance writer (from 16 years ago according to this article you linked to) running for office. Where are the issues? It's like, I could give a CRAP whether someone INHALED in the 1960s. Can you run this country, hold your office, and help the people of the U.S. and the world at large.

Porn = people dead. Wow now that is some smart commentary.

Let's stick to the facts. This is not porn and if it was adult in nature as long as it was kept out of the hands of children why should anyone give a hooey?

Right on, S William, right on.

Erica, he is just plain ridiculous.

However, I'm not touching the Iraq thing with a 10 foot pole :-)

I would like to add that if the woman wins, she should be the keynote speaker at RWA and RT conventions, since they're both in Texas next year.

I merely meant that if someone finds ROMANCE offensive as "porn," they might consider things a millions times more offensive to humanity.
Lisa . . . doesn't matter which side of the war you're on . . . I simply think there are so many more pressing things than slinging mud at other candidates. A sad state of affairs in politics.

Erica, I agree. It's incredible what people use as issues to get elected these days. There must not be a lot of bad to say about her if that's what he's zoning in on. Or, he needs a new campaign manager :-)

The man's name is Fred Head. Is it any wonder he has issues?

Lisa:
LOL! Yes, if that's the worst someone can say about a person--you wrote a romance novel . . . seems to be a life well-lived.

Wow, just...wow. I don't think I've ever read anything quite that ridiculous.

I think everyone is missing the bigger picture, Susan
Combs
wrote a book with sex and then Susan
Combs
took a public position during debate on a sex education (ABSENCE ONLY)
bill while she served as a State Representative. The point, Susan
Combs
is a hypocrite.

Fred Head is clearly stating the facts.

Please debate how you can write a book of this nature and then took a public position of sex education (ABSENCE ONLY) bill. Can't have it both ways.

I write sex in my books but I believe in abstinence for youth. How is it impossible to believe in both? We don't write books with youth having sex. These are adults, and in almost all books they end up married. So we are writing, in romance specifically, about committed and monogomous relationships. Have you ever even read a sampling of romance novels to base your opinion on?
